Above the Fold: the part of the page that is visible to the visitor without having to scroll
Acquisition List: a list of prospective customers who have requested some form of online communication about a specific subject
Alert: online message of high importance sent to subscribers
API (Application Programmers Interface): a term used for interfaces that extend web server capabilities
Bill-Me Later: a delayed payment method offered to customers upon the purchase of a particular product or service
Blacklist: data-base of e-mail senders suspected of sending spam
Cookie: a small chunk of information about the visitor, stored by the visited website
Digital Certificate: online identification that authenticates the visitor
Export License: permission granted to ship a product abroad
Financial EDI: electronic exchange of payments
Hosting: refers to the storing or maintaining of files or domains on a server connected to the Internet
Internet Check Acceptance: a reliable system that allows consumers to enter their checking information on-line
Online Storefront: website operated by a software system, which offers goods and services online
Packet: information sent over the network, containing the sender's and the recipient's address
Shipping Provider: organization responsible for delivering the goods ordered via the Internet
Shopping Card: software responsible for creating an online store and accepting orders
