Graphic Design Terminology

Animation - the art of creating the appearance of continuous movement with a series of graphic images 

Camera Ready - artwork ready for reproduction

CMYK - the abbreviation for the four standard colors used in print design: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black

Four Color Process - color printing process, where the combination of CMYK is reproduced

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) - the most popular graphics format used on the Web

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) - a text formatting system for creating web pages

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) - a file format for full color and black and white graphic images

Logotype - company or product name used as a trademark in advertising

Page Layout - the whole design of a single page in a magazine, brochure etc.

PDF (Portable Document File) - a format for the transfer of designs across multiple computer platforms

Resolution - refers to the clarity of the image; higher resolution results in sharper and smoother image

Signature - term used in printing and binding; name given to a printed sheet after it has been folded
