Technical versus Creative Certified Translators

Certified translators are the people who businesses and individuals entrust to interpret their words into different languages while keeping the meaning and intent of the original document intact. Translating properly is a highly skilled talent that a person must have an aptitude for, otherwise the results might be far less than what is desired. Although the concept of translating a document might not seem that difficult, getting the right nuances and the right words to convey the proper meaning of the original document is much tougher than what is perceived. Unless it is done properly your beautifully written text can end up communicating something that you never imagined or ever wished to say.

When hiring a certified translator you have to figure out whether the person needs to have a technical or creative background in translation. Although many translators might be able to do both, they will not be able to handle both very well. The reason for this is that translating – like any other skill, is learned and the more it is practiced the better one gets at it. Therefore someone who has either been trained as a technical translator or who has a larger amount of experience in technical translations will be far better suited to translate your technical documents than one who has most of their experience as a creative translator. The same holds true for creative translators.

Just as technical writing and creative writing are two very different disciplines – the same thing can be said for translations. In effect, translating is the act of writing a document – except that the main ideas have been provided and the translator must simply take it and say it properly in another language. However, someone who does not think creatively will not be able to produce a credible sales text or manuscript – just as the creative translators would likely be stymied by the technical terms and straightforward language of the technical documents they might be given to translate.

Another reason that hiring the right kind of certified translator to take care of your translation needs is that the language used for different translations is also very different from one industry to the next. It can hardly be expected that a person adept at translating computer manuals would be equally as skilled at translating television bibles. The nuances, the techniques, the terms and the manner in which each document would be treated are kilometres apart.

There is no real difference between a technical and a creative certified translator. Neither one is better to hire than the other. However, the same cannot be applied if you simply assume that one will be able to provide as competent a translation as the other in a field to which they are not familiar. So, if you need to have your next best seller translated then you would turn to a creative certified translator and if you needed the manual for your car translated you would hire a technical translator. As long as you know what kind of text you have, you will be able to find the right kind of translator to help fill your needs.

I immediately got a call from a moving company who was very professional. We've had good communication, the survey was punctual and they returned a quotation the following day as promised. So far, so good!
