A moving checklist is essential when you wish to tackle your move in the most organized fashion. Here are some reminder tips that will help you in this venture.

A month before Moving Day

· Get in contact with the moving company well ahead of the actual moving date.
· Decide whether you want to do the packing yourself, or be helped by the packing services of the moving company. The mover will be happy to give you a hand and apply his top-notch professional packing.
· Do make sure to show movers goods that you want to transfer, otherwise you will end up paying more if any additional items happen to pop up at the last minute.
· Make sure to familiarize yourself with the Rights and Responsibilities of the moving services to to know exactly what their liabilities are.
· After you have made sure you have a clear understanding of every section, sign the Estimate/Order for the service.
· If you are moving from one place of residence to another, then you should notify the post office about your move.

A few days before Moving Day

· Close your bank account, unless you are planning to use a different branch of the same one.
· Settle all the financial matters related to ongoing projects you were in the middle of. For example, sale or lease of the house.
· Decide who will take care of packing your household goods: you or the moving company.
· Make sure that all the moving boxes have been marked clearly.
· Safeguard the details from the moving company, such as the name of your contact person and phone number.

Moving Day

· Confirm the address of your destination and date of delivery with the movers.
· Try to supervise the move as closely as possible. This includes making sure that your instructions are well understood by the movers.
· If your home is going to be empty for some time after you leave, do not forget to leave a set of keys and contact details for your relatives or neighbors. Make sure to notify the insurance agent and police department about the vacancy of your house.

Arrival Day

· Survey your new house to make sure all utilities are in order.
· Start to unpack the most necessary items first, or guide the movers towards items you'd like to unpack first (if you have included this service).
· Before signing your name on the Bill of Lading, check your goods carefully for any damage.
