Home Removal Checklist

The day of your home removal is almost here and all of a sudden you feel a bit disoriented. No worries! We've prepared a useful home removal checklist to bring you into focus before the big day.

Packing
Unless you are planning to entrust packing procedures to home removal services, you should start thinking about packing up your belongings. A proper way of doing it is to begin on time, so that you will not feel pressured into hurrying and recklessly shoving your stuff into a bunch of cardboard boxes without taking the utmost precaution to fully protect them. Start packing two weeks ahead of your move. Take special care of fragile items. Label all boxes with details of their contents. Prepare enough boxes so that there won't be a need in overstraining each box. Get rid of the rubbish. If you didn't use it in your old house, it is highly unlikely you use it in your new one.

Car
Determining the fate of your car is very important. Since, either of your decisions will directly affect the course of action you will need to undertake next. If you choose to take your car with you, you need to inquire with your home removal company about the auto shipping services. If you decide to leave it behind then you might as well sell it, or get it serviced if your move is a temporary one.

Bank
It is highly important to take care of matters related to your bank account. If you are planning to remain in the same bank – notify the bank of your change of address. In some cases, it makes more sense to transfer your account into another branch, or even switching banks if there is no easier alternative.

Schools
If you have school-age children, make sure to notify them about the leaving date and make some inquiries about new schools at your place of destination.

Driving License
If you are moving to a different country, it makes sense to check in advance whether your licence will be valid there, or if you will have to replace it with a new one complying with local standards.

Post Office
Commonly, for your change of address to take effect, the Post Office requires a notice of at lease seven days.

Accommodations
During house removals you may be in need of temporary accommodation. Don't postpone it to the last minute. Book your hotel well in advance. Remember, the hotel may be extremely busy especially if you happen to arrive amidst holidays.

Electricity
You will have to contact your current company at least 48 hours ahead of your home removal and inform your new one about the prospective date of moving into your new home.

Gas
Make sure to choose your gas supplier when your home removal date has been finalized.
